Ilias-Marinos Gaitanaris

Ilias-Marinos Gaitanaris is from Athens, Greece. In 2021, he graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University-Metropolitan College in Athens, Greece. Following his graduation, he worked for more than two years as a clinical physiotherapist in a rehabilitation center, where he treated both children and adults with a variety of neurological disorders.

From 2023 to 2025, he pursued a master's degree in Neurological Rehabilitation at the University of Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium. After completing his master's degree, he was introduced to the research environment through the opportunity to work as a research assistant at KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. His work there involved performing video assessments (annotations) of Freezing of Gait (FOG) episodes in patients with Parkinson's disease.

His research interests primarily focus on gait and movement impairments in individuals with neurological conditions, with a particular emphasis on Parkinson's disease. His role in this project is to bridge the technical, theoretical, and clinical domains, aiming to improve FOG detection in patients with Parkinson's disease through the use of a novel AI-based system.
